Connect OpenAI

Create an OpenAI admin key for MarginMeter to import daily API cost by project and model, and understand how OpenAI costs appear in your gross margin.

Create an admin key

  1. Open platform.openai.com → Settings → Organization → Admin keys (organization owners only).
  2. Create a key named MarginMeter.
  3. Paste it into Connections → OpenAI.

What is imported

Daily costs by project and model from OpenAI's organization cost report, in USD, converted to your reporting currency. Costs are classified as AI inference COGS by default; use classification rules to move internal projects to OpEx.

Troubleshooting

  • Invalid key — make sure it is an admin key (it starts with sk-admin-), not a project API key.
  • Missing recent day — OpenAI finalizes the previous day's costs with a short delay; MarginMeter re-reads recent days on every sync.
