AWS cost tracking against revenue — no access keys
Connect AWS Cost Explorer to MarginMeter with a read-only cross-account IAM role and see daily cloud cost by service next to your Stripe revenue and gross margin.
AWS bills are detailed but disconnected from revenue. MarginMeter pulls daily cost from Cost Explorer, classifies each service into compute, database, storage, network and other categories, and shows the result as a share of every dollar you earn.
Secure by design
You create an IAM role in your account that trusts MarginMeter with a unique external ID and can only call ce:GetCostAndUsage and ce:GetDimensionValues. MarginMeter stores the role ARN and external ID — never an access key. Each sync assumes the role for a few minutes and then the credentials expire.
What gets imported
- Daily unblended cost by service, linked account and record type.
- Credits, refunds and tax are tracked separately; credits are excluded from cost of goods sold by default so your margin isn't flattered by temporary discounts.
- Recent days AWS marks as estimated are labelled as such and replaced when finalized.
Known limitations
- Cost Explorer charges $0.01 per request to your AWS account (about $0.30/month for MarginMeter).
- Costs can lag up to 24 hours.
- Connect the payer account for consolidated billing across an organization.
Frequently asked questions
Why a role instead of access keys?
A cross-account role with an external ID lets MarginMeter request short-lived credentials that can only read costs. There are no long-lived keys to leak or rotate.
Will this increase my AWS bill?
Slightly. AWS charges $0.01 per Cost Explorer API request. MarginMeter makes about one request per day, roughly $0.30 per month.
Can I connect an AWS Organization?
Yes. Connect the management (payer) account to see consolidated costs across linked accounts.
